Sri Lanka’s Cabinet approved the signing of a €10 million grant agreement with the European Union, according to an announcement on 3 November 2026.

The proposed four-year project will support sustainable trade, with an emphasis on greener activity and resilience to climate-related pressures.

Another component is strengthening institutions involved in trade. The programme is intended to help Sri Lanka meet international standards relevant to access to the EU market.

The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development plans to implement the project.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake submitted the proposal in his capacity as finance minister, seeking authorisation to enter the grant agreement.

Cabinet approval is a step towards the financing arrangement. The announcement did not say that all funds had already been disbursed or that participating businesses could immediately apply for direct payments.
