A new pedestrian bridge and improved platform facilities were among the changes awaiting commuters when Narahenpita Railway Station reopened on 6 July 2026.

The refurbishment covered the station roof, seating, lighting, sanitation and sewerage systems. Work also extended the second passenger platform, renewed railway quarters and resurfaced the access road.

The station lies on the Kelani Valley line between Kota Road and Kirulapone. Its location serves passengers travelling to a concentration of public and private institutions in Narahenpita.

Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake attended the reopening under the Dream Destination initiative, which aims to improve 100 stations through public-private cooperation.

MAGA Engineering provided funding and construction support, while NIO Engineering contributed technical services. The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat coordinated the initiative under ministry guidance and railway supervision.

The project addressed a station that officials described as having suffered years of deterioration and inadequate passenger amenities.
