Rs.700 estate worker daily wage suspended

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured Parliamentarians of the Tamil Progressive Alliance that the gazette notification pertaining to the agreement signed by estate owners and estate workers unions to increase the basic daily wage to Rs.700 will not be issued.

Leader of the TPA Mano Ganesan said the decision was reached during a discussion held with the Prime Minister pertaining to the suspension of the daily allowance of Rs.140 from the wage of estate workers through the proposal to increase the salaries of estate workers.

Accordingly the decision to increase the basic daily wage of estate workers to Rs.700 will be temporarily suspended.

Representatives of the Tamil Progressive Alliance on Friday (01) held talks with Premier Wickremesinghe demanding a favourable solution to the matter as estate workers have been deceived due to the suspension of the daily allowance of Rs.140 through the new agreement.
