Relief package to strengthen tourism industry affected by Easter attacks approved

The approval of the Cabinet of Ministers has been granted for the proposed “Relief Package” to strengthen the tourism industry affected owing to Easter Sunday terror attacks.

It consists of a moratorium on interest and debt, loan schemes, working capital loans, VAT reductions and concessions for security equipment, said State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne.

Accordingly, a moratorium will be announced by Central Bank to tourism institutions and individuals, on a case-by-case basis. The moratorium period will be until 31stof March 2020.

An allocation of Rs 1,514 million will be provided for the tourism sector loans under the Enterprise Sri Lanka loan schemes.
