Colombo Fort Acting Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage Tuesday, re-issued an open warrant for the arrest of wife of former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States (US), Jaliya Wickramasuriya and his sister-in-law who had become bail guarantors when seeking approval from the Court for Wickramasuriya to go overseas temporarily.
An open warrant was also re-issued to arrest Wickramasruiya as well, as he had failed to appear in Court, after going to the US having gained approval from Court for medical treatment.
Wickramasuriya has been charged with allegedly accepting a commission of US$ 332,000 following a contract awarded to refurbish the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, District of Columbia, while serving as the Ambassador to the US, under the previous Government.
When the case was taken up for hearing before Acting Magistrate Liyanage, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division told Court that they are currently taking action to bring down Wickramasuriya to Colombo under Extradition Laws.
The Court had issued open warrants on a number of previous occasions against the former diplomat, who has been absconding since being allowed to travel abroad in July 2017.
The case was put off for 6 March.
