Korean Telecom Cooperation awarded to install LED street lights in Colombo and other main cities

The Sri Lankan government has received the cabinet nod to award a project to Korean Telecom Cooperation to replace conventional street lighting with LED street lights in Colombo and other main cities.

The Korean Telecom Cooperation had earlier presented a proposal for the implementation of a project for the replacement of conventional street lights with Smart controlled LED street lights.

An Officials’ Committee had been appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to examine the Korean company’s proposal and submit its recommendations.

Minister Vajira Abeywardena, Minister of Internal & Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government has put forward a proposal to implement the project for the replacement of conventional street lights with Smart controlled LED street lights by awarding the same to the Korean Telecom Cooperation.

The cabinet after considering the matters submitted by the Officials’ Committee pertaining to the benefits that could be accrued by the proposed project such as enabling to install a CCTV system to regulate the security and waste management in main cities including Colombo and providing WIFI facilities that could be used by the public, the cabinet has approved the Minister’s proposal.
