Attorney General Dappula de Livera has informed police chiefs to expedite investigation into four controversial crimes including the murders of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge and national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
The Attorney General’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayarathne stated Acting IGP, CV Wickramaratne and the Senior DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department, as well as its Director have been instructed by the Attorney General
The Attorney General has also instructed the police chiefs to submit the complete reports of the investigations into these four cases.
The Attorney General has observed that there is an unnecessary delay in the Lasantha Wickrematunge and Wasim Thajudeen murder cases, the abduction and enforced disappearances of 11 youths in Colombo, and the murder of 17 workers of a non-governmental organization in Muttur.
Accordingly, instructions have been issued to take action to immediately conclude the inquiries in relation to these incidents and submit the reports to the Attorney General’s Department.
